Video from the DC Tea Party Protest
Posted by Brendan in FreedomWorks on February 27, 2009
Here is a sample from the DC Tea Party today outside the White House. There is much more to come. I’ll be posting more videos from around the country soon!
Michelle Malkin has some great coverage, as do a number of bloggers around the country. Remember, this is just the beginning.

The Taxpayer Tea Party Launches Across the Country
Posted by Brendan in FreedomWorks on February 26, 2009
In only a few hours the national movement against the bailout nation begins in cities across the US. From City Hall in New York City and Independence Hall in Philadelphia, to the White House in Washington, the Saint Louis Arch and the Santa Monica pier in California, American taxpayers are launching a movement against the bankrupting of our country. Michelle Malkin has an update on the various tea parties being held on Friday, February 27th. But there are also many more that are taking place in small towns across the country, which aren’t listed yet. I talked to activists in Sacramento, Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta and elsewhere today and they are fired up and ready to go!
This movement is just the beginning of a much bigger revolution by grassroots Americans to take a stand against the spending spree in Washington. I’ll do my best to report from the Washington protest, and also upload video from around the country. Thank you to everyone who is leading or participating in this protest on Friday. We are all part of something big tomorrow, and it will only get bigger and louder.
The Tea Party Revolution Takes Off
Posted by Brendan in FreedomWorks on February 23, 2009
Over the weekend I’ve talked to many people that are planning their own tea party protest in their community. This movement has grown by leaps and bounds over the weekend and it’s going to be hard to keep track of all the events. That’s why some conservative groups in DC have teamed up to provide a clearinghouse site for all the tea parties going on around the country. The website is http://newamericanteaparty.com.
If you are planning a protest, just post something on the site and we will upload the details for you so that others in your area can find out about it. Also, if you want to be granted access to blog updates about your protest, just let us know! Keep checking New American Tea Party for updates, and if you want to lead a tea party in your city or town, just post something and we will help you make it happen!
How to Organize Your Own “Tea Party” Protest
Posted by Brendan in FreedomWorks on February 20, 2009
The internet is abuzz with chatter about organizing protests around the country to put an end to this madness on Wall Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. But I’ve talked to many people out there who have never organized a protest, and so they don’t have a clue where to begin. Here are 10 simple steps that you can follow to organize a protest in your own community. If you want more help, just send me an email at bsteinhauser @freedomworks.org and I’ll work with you one on one to help make your protest a success.
1. Pick a location, date and time in your town. I’d suggest main street at an intersection with lots of traffic.
2. Tell your friends, family, co-workers and everyone else you know about the protest. Build an rsvp email list so that you can provide quick updates if something changes. You should also create a facebook group so that the group can communicate with one another.
3. Make 5-10 signs with legible slogans that send a clear message to the public and the media. Write in BIG LETTERS.
4. Call your local talk radio hosts and ask them to announce the location, date and time on the air for a few days leading up to the protest. Send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper announcing the protest. Email the bloggers in your area and ask them to post a notice about the protest.
5. Write a press release and email, mail and fax copies to the local tv stations, radio stations and newspapers. Call the reporters that cover local events or politics and leave messages on their voice mail.
6. On the day of your protest, show up with your group, be loud, visible, happy and engage the public. Wave your signs, make lots of noise and move around to get attention. If reporters interview you, give them some good sound bytes for their stories. Stay on message and keep your answers short and coherent.
7. Bring sign-in sheets to capture the names, emails and phone numbers of everyone who attends the protest and/or says that they support what you are doing. You will then have a big list of people that can plan the next, much bigger and louder, event. Also bring handouts with one page of quick facts about why you are protesting in the first place.
8. Add your pictures, video and an after-action report to your facebook group, and send this stuff to the bloggers and reporters that you originally contacted. Ask them to post the photos, story and video.
9. Thank everyone who attended via email and phone, and set up a meeting to plan your next event. Now you have a list of people in your community that can help make the next protest huge. Encourage everyone to commit to bring at least one friend to the next protest.
10. Organize a carpool and go find a friend in your neighboring town or county and help them organize a protest there. You and your people are now veterans and should be able to keep the momentum going around your area.
Email me if you have any questions or want some ideas for signs. bsteinhauser @freedomworks.org
Good luck!

Why It’s Time For A Second Boston Tea Party
For years I’ve been speaking and writing about the need for conservatives to use the tactics of the left to fight for our ideas of lower taxes, less government and more freedom. I am aware that many conservatives don’t feel comfortable doing things like rallying, protesting or shouting slogans. But we need to get over ourselves and understand that mass demonstrations are an effective way to get a message out, identify supporters of our cause and earn media coverage. Plus, this is how the left has been able to shape public opinion on issues from the war in Iraq to labour disputes to social security benefits. Why have we ceded this battlespace to the left for so long??
The government bailouts of Wall Street, the auto companies and other corporations have galvanized public anger at a level I haven’t seen in some time. People who play by the rules are furious at the elites in government and business who screw over the taxpayers with corporate welfare, rent-seeking and distortions of the free market. Many Americans are fed up with the corruption, scandals, kickbacks and political deals that are going on. I’ve noticed that this anger is beginning to reach a fever pitch, and that more people have shown a willingness to take to the streets in protest, as my boss Dick Armey urged a few weeks ago.
The federal government is way out of control, and has intruded into our lives in an unprecedented way. This did not start with President Obama (it started with President Bush) but he is the current president and should be held accountable for his actions. The time has come for a second Boston Tea Party, a protest that ignited the people around a common cause and sent a message to the tyrants of those times.
This bailout nation thing, coupled with the largest federal spending bill in the history of our country is going to push people over the edge with anger and disappointment. And the proper outlet for this anger is a massive, nationwide, persistent, aggressive protest every week in dozens of cities around the country. Only with this kind of massive national movement can the American people rein in the politicians of both parties and build a constituency large enough in each congressional district and state to kick out the politicians of either party that voted for these bailouts and massive spending bills.
I, for one, will be doing my best to foment these protests around the country, targeting any politician that has pushed these terrible ideas publicly. I ask Americans across the country to join groups like FreedomWorks, Campaign for Liberty, National Taxpayers Union and the other groups who are encouraging taxpayers to organize the resistance against the federal government’s attempt to take away whatever economic freedom we have left. I fear that if we fail, this country will look a lot more like France, and less like the country that was founded 200 years ago. This is a battle between freedom and socialism, and we the people are the only ones standing between the federal government and our cherished liberties. If you want to make a difference, please organize your own community and march on main street every week if you have to, and send a message to your congressman and senators that we’ve had enough.
Finally, ask yourself this question, which was posed by another fellow blogger, “What would Thomas Jefferson do?”
Texas should reject federal “stimulus” money
The Houston Chronicle reports that Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is considering rejecting some of the money from the recently signed Obama trillion dollar debt (stimulus) plan. He notes that the money could come with serious strings attached, and that Texas would have to increase spending in the future for some programs, even if the federal money won’t be there. It’s good to see Perry taking a firm stance on this issue, even though I cynically suspect that it has a little something to do with his tough re-election bid.
Either way, I’m hopeful that Texas, along with South Carolina and Louisiana, can continue to show leadership against this massive federal intrusion into state sovereignty. Kudos to governors Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford for thinking about the taxpayers and the long-term effects of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid boondoggle that is such a colossal waste of money.
Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday he’s not sure the state should accept all of its projected share of federal stimulus money — $16.9 billion and counting by preliminary estimates — because of the “mile-long” strings that might be attached.
“One thing that concerns me is that dollars are going to come into Texas that require us to match those dollars, and then two years from now, those federal dollars won’t be there, but we will be on the hook to pay for those programs going forward,” Perry said.
Congressman Tom Price gives an inside look at the Obama debt plan
Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) just released this video of him reading through the so-called “stimulus” bill. He notes that this gargantuan bill was marked up behind closed doors, is over 1000 pages long and includes handwritten notes adding tens of millions of dollars here and there.
The House is scheduled to vote on the conference report of the bill later today. It will do NOTHING to help the economy, and as CBO reports, it will actually harm the economy in the long term. Reports are that Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to leave for Rome, which is partly to explain why the House is violating its pledge to allow the American people 48 hours to read the bill before the vote.
So much for Democrat “transparency”
As Human Events is reporting, Republicans have been almost completely shut out of the secret negotiations between members of the House and Senate on the so-called “stimulus” plan. Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama have promised us a new era of accountability and transparency, yet they are trying to pass this massive spending bill, the largest in our entire history, without any input from House Republicans. There is rumour that staff from liberal Senator Specter’s office is there, but no one is sure.
Check out Rep. Tom Price’s video shot outside Speaker Pelosi’s office in the House of Representatives. The Democrats are trying to turn Congress into the Politboro. Thanks to Rep. Price for letting the American people know what’s going on!
Charles Rangel and the Harlem Tax Revolt
This is a brilliant video by my friend Evan Coyne Maloney, a documentary maker based out of New York City. Evan went to Harlem to find out what Charles Rangel’s constituents think about taxes and politicians that don’t pay them.
Obama’s hypocrisy on CEO’s
As ABC News reports, president Obama seems to have one standard for corporate CEO’s and another one for himself, the CEO of these United States.
America’s CEOs are coming under fire these days not just for their hefty salaries but also for their use of private jets, limos with drivers and free trips to posh resorts. But they aren’t alone in living this lavish lifestyle — the president of United States gets all these perks and more.
While Obama is lecturing the fat cats on Wall Street about their lavish perks, pay and vacations, he and Capitol Hill Democrats are planning their annual “retreat” in Williamsburg, Virginia this weekend. The costs to taxpayers? At least $500,000 for transport, food and entertainment for the last five years.
As The Hill reports, even in these tough economic times, the liberal elites refuse to give up their lavish lifestyles and the perks that go with being politicians in America.
