How Conservative Activists Should Approach the August Congressional Recess

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the press the other day, “I’m not afraid of August. It’s just a month.” Well, she and her fellow liberal Democrats should be afraid, very afraid. When Members of Congress return home to their districts they are going to face an angry opposition to their schemes to take over health care, raise taxes by trillions of dollars and increase the public debt.

Conservatives who want to defeat Obamacare should play an active role this August in stoking the flames of outrage in their congressional districts. Those who have been emailing, calling, faxing or protesting their Congressmen and Senators on the health care issue should make an effort to publicly confront these politicians during the August Recess.

FreedomWorks will be making a list of townhall meetings available for those who want to attend and ask tough questions. I encourage everyone to do their own homework as well this week to find out when and where their Congressmen will be appearing. Organize your friends and family, and your doctor, if he or she opposes Obamacare, and get to as many town hall meetings as you can. Be the first to line up at the microphone during Q&A, and ask tough, specific questions about the health care legislation being debated in Congress. You can always use the resources at FreedomWorks.org to get analysis, suggested questions and other tools to help in this campaign against a government takeover of health care.

We need to make it our goal to get in front of every Blue Dog Democrat and moderate Republican in Congress during the month of August. These are the key swing votes on Obamacare, and if we can show up in force, and fill the town hall meetings with people opposed to Obamacare, we can own the fear of the Members and send a message that the American people don’t want more government control over health care. This grassroots activity will build momentum towards our massive protest at the U.S. Capitol on September 12th. Combined, these efforts very well could derail the worst aspects of Obamacare, and save our country from yet more government encroachment on our lives.
