Bloggers defend Geert Wilders and his film

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

My fellow bloggers at The Jawa Report have crafted a petition to defend filmmaker and Dutch politician Geert Wilders. As I mentioned in a previous post, his film “Fitna” is making waves.

The petition reads:

To: The Dutch Government

WHEREAS Geert Wilders has exercised his fundamental human right of freedom of expression and spoken out, with facts and evidence, of the threat posed by radical Islam;

WHEREAS certain elements within Islamic communities have threatened a boycott of Dutch goods if Geert Wilders is not punished by the Dutch government for exercising his freedom of expression; and

WHEREAS certain elements in Dutch industry and the Dutch government are suggesting that Geert Wilders be prosecuted civilly or criminally, in order to prevent such a boycott;

IT IS RESOLVED that, in the event that the Dutch government attempts, in any way, to punish or prosecute Geert Wilders, civilly or criminally, for exercising his freedom of expression, the undersigned will initiate a boycott of any and all Dutch goods.

“Fitna” - Controversial film about the Koran is now online

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

The film below was put together by Dutch politician Geert Wilders. As Radio Netherlands reports,

Dutch politician Geert Wilders has released his anti-Qur’an film, Fitna, on the internet. The website of his Party for Freedom (www.pvv.nl) contains a link to the site where the film, which lasts approximately 16 minutes, can be seen.

Before it begins, viewers are warned that they may see shocking images; these include pictures of the terrorist attacks in New York, Madrid and London. Fitna also contains fragments of interviews with the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, translations of verses from the Qur’an, newspaper headlines about death threats to Ayaan Hirsi Ali and quotes from sermons delivered by orthodox imams. It also notes that the number of Muslims living in the Netherlands has risen from 54,000 to 944,000 over the last hundred years.

Pope baptizes prominent former Muslim

Monday, March 24th, 2008

As the AP reports, Pope Benedict baptized a prominent Muslim named Magdi Allam over the Easter weekend.

Italy’s most prominent Muslim, an iconoclastic writer who condemned Islamic extremism and defended Israel, converted to Catholicism Saturday in a baptism by the pope at a Vatican Easter service.

Muslim extremists have made threats against Allam in the past for his criticism of Palestinian homicide bombers. Now that he has converted to Catholicism, the Islamists will consider him an apostate, which will mark him for death, according to sharia.
