Texas representative seeks to protect incumbents
Here is the letter I sent Texas representative Jim Pitts (R-Waxahachie) regarding his candidacy for the Texas Speaker of the House.
Rep. Pitts,
I am deeply disappointed with your comment reported in the Statesman: “I will go out and help 149 members . . . get re-elected, whether Republican or Democrat.“
Since when has protecting incumbents been an honorable way to represent your constituents? This statement is appalling, and reflects your apparent desire to remain in power, and protect other politicians, above all else.
You and your staff should be ashamed of yourselves. Your constituents and other Texans deserve better.
